For the first time ever, Zine Fest Houston will exhibit selections from the ZFH archive in Now That’s What I Call Zine Fest Houston 23! This collection of over 20 years of ephemera features posters, hand bills, compilations, comics, and of course, ZINES! A treasure trove of paper goods, the ZFH archive tells the story of Zine Fest Houston’s humble beginnings to its present day incarnation. Join us for this celebration of our history and pre-party as we lead into ZFH 2016!

The opening event for Now That’s What I Call Zine Fest Houston 23 is also a mini-fest, featuring a sneak peek of ZFH 2016 self-publishers, so bring your dollar bills and scoop up some fresh zine releases! Libations will be provided by Matchbox Gallery and jams by ZFH resident DJ: DJ 2 DEEP.

As the legend goes, in the ancient days of 1993 CE, a group of zine elders gathered together to show off the latest issues of their zines at Hermann Park. Over the next two decades, the event now known as Zine Fest Houston slowly grew and evolved into the multi-headed hydra it is today; with workshops, compilations and comix anthologies, community outreach and fundraising events creating a year-round celebration of self publishing culminating in the festival itself.

ZFH is committed to providing accessible space to celebrate self-publishing and small presses, encouraging the distribution of independent art, writing, and media primarily through the medium of zines. 2016 promises to be its biggest year ever, thanks to the wonderful support from the Houston creative community through the years. Here’s hoping the next 23 years be as epic as the last! Long live DIY!

Zine Fest Houston 2016 will take place Saturday, November 19th from 2-8PM at Lawndale Art Center.
