Reception: September 29, 2011 at 7pm
Location: Sewall Hall, Rice University
On View: September 29, 2011 to October 26, 2011

Dolly Li, Reconstructed Used Furniture: the second addition in a series of “used furniture” pieces made of recycled materials, collected from students and recycling areas around the university’s campus. Reconstructed Used Furniture will be a reflection of the gallery space and the culture of consumerism of students. Visitors are recommended to lie upon the piece to enjoy the full experience of the collaborative ceiling and floor installations.

Elliott SoRelle, Suspended: a reinvention of images as objects recycled from previous photographic work. All objects have deliberately been taken out of their original contexts and joined together to explore new emergent relations and dynamics, both amongst themselves and with the viewer. Suspended seeks to create context from the exhibition space and from the objects themselves. The cooperation of these objects with Reconstructed Used Furniture invites the audience to engage with a conventional space in a non-conventional way, through vertical rather than horizontal exploration.
